Taking this pre-war house apart, the designers of Nevermore have demonstrated the power of design by breathing new life into its existing structure through an ultra-modern approach. The end result is a one-of-a-kind show house that emphasises on easy-to-maintain features in an off-white colour scheme. For more contrast, raw finishes such as cement and timber are further incorporated to present a darker and cosier vibe. As each space is designed for specific purposes, the overall furnishing and décor are kept to a minimal to achieve a comfortable yet not overly dressy environment. In order to keep its interior as spacious and contemporary as possible, a simple colour palette of 3 colour tones was selected to compliment the décor without overwhelming the users.
Upon entering the premise, one’s attention is immediately captured by an intriguing cabinet inspired by designs of a termite mound. It is beautifully complemented with a custom-made rail-less staircase that is not commonly seen in Malaysia, which opens up the interior without causing any obstruction, allowing the eyes to roam freely into further parts of the show house. Apart from being a practical solution, bringing the staircase to life was also a breakthrough for the designers, proving that this concept could be actualised. To enhance its spaciousness, the structure of the building is reconstructed with a skylight feature to provide natural lighting to the interior spaces.
The living area is situated directly underneath the skylight as it is fashioned with a sleek granite TV console. Next to it, the dining area is distinguished with a gorgeous cement-textured wall and wooden furniture, while the kitchen area sports a clean white décor with an incredible 14-feet long solid surface island equipped with a hidden door that leads into the washroom, blendeding seamlessly into the kitchen cabinets. The upper levels have been transformed into two bedrooms featuring a unique urban and a modern chic theme respectively, a director’s studio and an attic that houses a cosy lounge area, a walk-in closet and working space. Overall, it is an absolute dream space for the younger generation.
