For their own brand new office, The designers of Yong Studio endeavoured to create a space where they have the sense of comfort and freedom they need to fully exercise their creativity.
With its success leading to the expansion of the company especially in terms of the size of its workforce, Yong Studio went searching for a new space to turn into its new office. A two-storey lot in the LGSB Commercial Centre in Sungai Buloh met its practical needs and the company’s designers began planning how they were going to transform it to suit the company’s image and spirit. They were determined to apply the same dedication to creating the dream interior that they deliver to their clients to their own workspace.
To that end, they sought to create a great environment where they could enjoy their work and have a bit of fun when they felt like it in reflection of the company’s ‘work hard, play hard’ philosophy. In regard to the overall look, the designers ultimately settled on a Scandinavian industrial theme but with a freestyle twist.
Meant to convey a casual yet still professional aura, the overall colour scheme is mostly monochromatic with white being the dominant colour and accentuated by touches of black and swaths of grey. Complementing this is the choice to use light brown wood flooring and furniture for most of the office with the occasional splash of bright colours here and there. A literal corner of green is what first greets those who set foot inside the office, bringing a bit of the outdoors inside complete with a somewhat traditional bicycle.
Right next to it is a signpost that points out the location of all the key spaces and departments in the office such as the designer floor and the meeting room. The fun atmosphere these not-so-small touches creates is aided by the fact that every square inch of the space is illuminated with natural lighting that streams in from the windows, sliding glass doors and even a skylight.
True to their desire to turn their office into a sort of second home where they can work freely and do not feel stressed, the designers allocated space for little pockets of calm where they can go to take a short break from their tasks. Aside from the gym area and lounge area, there is also a chill-out area which sports quirky decorative items and even artificial grass carpeting. What truly seals the deal where this feeling of ‘home away from home’ is concerned, however, is the second floor of the office which features a sleeping area where employees can grab some shut-eye for a while.
