Taking after trending modern designs, this studio unit features a healthy selection of industrial-inspired materials as well as geometrical motifs, which ultimately resulted in a contemporary urban living space tailored to the lifestyle of its owner. Balancing the more masculine elements of its design with softer earth tones and warm lighting, the overall space instinctively exudes a sense of homeliness that is further enhanced with wood grains as well as fabric selections of its furnishings.
With the dry kitchen and dining area aligned to one side of the house, the design creates an undisrupted flow that leads into its living room. Capturing the eyes with a simple geometry wall design, the living room is merely furnished with a sofa and TV panel as its contemporary layout is further enhanced with track lights that elongate the space visually. At the same time, by maintaining a light colour palette throughout the common areas of this house, which helps to keep the deeper parts of this interior sufficiently illuminated without relying on extensive artificial lighting. As such, the entire space, layered with simple yet practical Scandinavian-inspired furniture pieces, is able to preserve its cosiness, resulting in a relaxed atmosphere.
Despite its smaller overall unit size, the open space layout applied in this studio unit has optimised every square foot made available by maintaining visual connectivity throughout the project with open shelving fixtures to replace partition walls, enabling the space to appear wider while promoting ventilation, particularly between the living room and the bedroom. The clever use of mesh wires enables the designer to create space-saving zoning effect as the feature doubles as a display wall that is decorated with artworks of the owner’s favourite fictional characters. More importantly, the TV panel can be use on both sides, which help to rationalise space usage without denying the bedroom its own TV rack. Last but not least, the designer was able to provide a wardrobe, a laundry room and a gorgeous bathroom by separating the area from its bedroom with a pocket door.
