Birds Nest Secret is an Asian specialty dessert house that serves premium desserts made out of the delicacy that is birds nest. Bird’s nest is a traditional Chinese medicine that is believed to have a long list of health benefits and healing powers.
Chaos Design Studio knew exactly what they were doing when they decided to transform this sizeable lot in the bustling Icon City located in Bukit Mertajam, Penang into a virtual bird’s nest.
With that in mind, they looked at the bird’s nest itself for inspiration and created an interior that gives a sense of comfort and privacy while guests could tuck into their treats.
This concept was brought to life through a collection of seating pods that serve as the central feature of the restaurant. Available in different designs as well as open, semi-open and fully enclosed types, these pods vary to meet every individual customer preference.
Despite this, the vibrant structure and color all the pods share help create a sense of uniformity that ties together that restaurant’s ground and mezzanine levels even as they give the ambiance a touch of quirky and fun.
Another way bird’s nest heavily influenced the restaurant’s design was the selection of its materials. Chaos Design Studio ultimately settled on light timber with stone finishing as this combination suitably represented nature which is a key element due to the nature of the delicacy being served in the eatery.
Complementing this look are the strips of timber that were used to create the iconic seating pods, exterior facade, and railing which creates an illusion being on a birds nest.
