The hectic nature of city life makes it easy for one to lose touch with nature and this is no less true when it comes to Penang Island. Seeking a way to solve this dilemma with The Craftisan’s aesthetic, Grov Design Studio developed a simplistic nature-inspired theme for this cosy cafe which is located at the heart of the island.
The cafe’s design has a minimalistic concept with a touch of wilderness to it. The designer chose to go with neutral shades of wood to evoke the warmth of nature and paired them with a primarily white colour scheme to keep it simple and balanced.
An exposed brick wall adds texture to the space without drawing too much attention thanks to its coating of white paint.
Meanwhile, deep blue and bright green chairs help the cafe’s practical elements stay true to its nature-inspired colour scheme.
Contrasting these furnishings are a stretch of light grey cushioned bench seats along the wall and the matte black pendant lights hanging overhead which accentuate the cafe’s calm and quiet ambience.
The cafe’s design is complemented by a touch of actual greenery courtesy of air plants and terrariums that make one feel as if they are surrounded by nature.
The designers wanted to keep the design simple to ensure that the focus of the cafe’s customers would be on the freshly brewed coffees and rich desserts instead.
