Using little more than clean-cut lines and a basic but still captivating colour scheme, this home offers a place to escape the hectic nature of modern life without sacrificing its many charms.
Tucked away in a cosy corner of Klang, Laman Villa offers immensely spacious houses that enjoy easy accessibility to key areas thanks to its strategic location. A resident of one of its expansive bungalows wanted their home to be their very own sanctuary in the city where they could relax completely after a long day at work. Working off this brief, Deacon Loi created a modern contemporary concept that uses geometric shapes and a mostly monochrome palette to express its uniqueness. This design choice is evident even from the outside as can be seen with the main gate as well as the koi pond.
Inside, the living area showcases this in a truly interesting yet still functional manner by integrating its shapes into crucial elements of its furnishings. Illuminated by two dropped ceiling lights, it has as its centrepiece a large curved C-shaped brown upholstered sofa. Matching its colour and adding some lavish patterning to the space at the same time are the brown marble slabs used to decorate the wall behind the television and form the television cabinet.
Separated from the living area by a brown marble low table and hanging shelves, the dining area is no less impressive. A grand chandelier dangles from its double-volume ceiling over a white marble dinner table and brown padded dinner chairs, giving the space a regal air. Here, the geometric shapes manifest in the form of large uneven-sized stone slabs decorating the nearby wall. Indentations created in this wall allow for lights to be hidden in the slits as well as a small shelf. Meanwhile, the kitchen adheres to the theme in its own unique yet still practical way with its two-level white marble kitchen island.
An exception to the rule is the family hall upstairs which has been furnished with somewhat traditional Chinese furniture that pays tribute to the homeowner’s culture. Aside from this one space, geometric shapes and patterns dominate the rest of the more private areas of the house. The most noteworthy example of this is the headboard of the master bedroom which is made up of large black irregular geometric-shaped panels with backlighting to highlight the resulting pattern. A similar pattern decorates the sliding wardrobe doors and the black frame-shaped wall shelves further enforce the theme in a highly practical and artistic manner.
