With new fixtures installed and loose furniture pieces put in place, the new and old contrast off each other harmoniously resulting in a home with a new appeal while still retaining that old-fashioned charm.
Refurbishing this semi-detached home involved a skilled hand and discerning mind from the designer. The daintiness of the home inspired the designer towards a nuanced aesthetic while still achieving the comforts of home with a modern-day twist. In the end, carefully selected furniture and precisely intended design details transformed the home into one of reinvigorated nostalgia. In days past, its homeowners especially cherished this home with its well-ventilated rooms. Today, the designer is careful to have refurbished it with modern window fixtures to keep it ventilated; a home with a sense of warmth and being airy and breezy, at the same time, it’s more than a comfortable home while also being practical for the upkeep considering one could save on this energy-saving feature.
Another key feature is the mosaic-tiled floor — a family favourite from the olden days – have been retained along with existing doors and grills that have merely been re-touched with fresh coats of paint to add to its old-time allure that gives the home its unique character. The living room is further animated by wood-based furniture, leather sofas, black-matted steel frames and exposed pipes which give it a theme of sorts and further brings out the home’s unique aura. Not straying too far from the characteristic Malaysian home the common area is also tastefully decked with an array of potted plants.
Most of all, this home gives a general picture of being in harmony with nature, especially with the designers’ emphasis on its landscape. The concept of the house being very much intertwined with the outdoors is subtly delineated by a timber deck, a snug outdoor bench and a glass roof; allowing for a much-warranted experience with nature whether it be a solitary or sociable one.
