The design team at Archiplan has managed to create an elegant visitor information centre for Penang Hill – a well-known tourist destination situated in the middle of the Pearl of the Orient.
The use of natural building materials such as cement and timber is contrasted with more modern and refined selections of glass and black-matted metal to produce a design that would appeal to a wider range of visitors, from millennials who have grown accustomed to the finer things in life to the older generations who prefer the comfort presented by nature.
The unique structure of this visitor information centre allowed the design team to equip the entire building with floor-to-ceiling glass windows which allow visitors to enjoy the surrounding nature in an observatory-like setting. This design feature has allowed natural light to permeate the interior, creating a naturally pleasing ambience that puts guests at ease. At the same time, LED light strips are applied to provide distinctive lines to accentuate the classy modern vibe of its interior.
Aside from that, the floor is finished plainly with cement to complement the natural vibes of the intended design. It is then contrasted with a sleek ceiling feature which is made of black glossy panels, providing a touch of sophistication that helps to elevate the design even further.
The visitor centre is also enhanced with a wide range of custom-made open shelving units, used to display souvenirs without physically and visually cluttering up the interior spaces.
