Simple and often features bare materials, these are characteristics of Brutalism in the design world. As a matter of fact, it is the interior design approach for this bubble tea outlet. Smeared in entirely cement, the notably inspired style from the mid-20th century surpassingly portrays a bulky, blocky appearance with rigid geometric elements.
Its brutalism begins by having an old existing wall hacked to expose its bare core; enough for its flaunting grey texture and colour to be the base in upholding an exhibition of portraits. The outlet then comes to life in a fusion of Northmos’ design prowess and their remarkable dexterous scheme into each proposition.
Creating zonings is their very main intent. The concrete is fused with timber flooring and hexagon tiles in certain sections. Similar to the texture of marble, the beautiful geometric hexagon tiles that made the counter is creatively spilled over onto the floor. The blend with the cement resulted to an undeniably unique look. Behind the counter, the green porcelain tiles give away as a bright greeting backdrop for a welcoming scene.
From the entrance, the outlet extends towards the back as a long hallway. Seizing the opportunity, the designers has transformed the space into a dramatic feature wall. Built and painted, the dark wood resembles of old wine cart boxes. The space is enhanced even further as the green seating booth is elevated, granting a sense of height experience.
Fashioned like drawn stickman steel house blocks, the space invites to accommodate customers in groups. The bare wall is then jazzed up with portraits of iconic divas around the 60s and 90s coming all the way from the counter area. None can deny a head turn towards a different pair of stunning eyes plastered onto the wall. Unexpectedly, that graffiti became a cemented masterpiece which easily get passersby into thinking that the art is live, glancing at them upon entering.
Taking the brutalism game to another level, the designers injected pop of colours to the furniture. Apart from green, the deep blue sea exudes composure and tranquility. Whilst, the pink sofa set illustrates gentleness as well as sweetness to the ambience. The design marvel does not just stop there when a hidden yet quirky space is boxed inwards as a private corner burrowed at the end of the hallway.
Furnished with a comfy coffee table setting, a parade of lamp shades dangled above the geometrically sliced glass wall. Infused in boundless of surprises, the amalgam of spatial arrangement, textured materials and sleek furnishings; all have played a part in somehow blending a tea flavour that is ruthlessly a showpiece experience like no other.
