Giving off the illusion of having a relatively simple aesthetic, this upscale home proves without a doubt that the devil is in the details.
Located near the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort, the luxury condominium development Tropicana Grande is inspired both on the inside and outside by golf and the golf course. Its crystalline-like qualities greatly appealed to the owner of one of its duplex units who wished for their home to build on this imagery. At the same time, they wanted it to reflect their preference for fine details and stunning art. Based on this, Celeste Yu and Jasmine Pang managed to create a generally modern concept that was equal parts simple and intricate.
The interior sports a predominantly neutral palette that allows the finer details of every piece of furnishing in it to shine regardless of whether it is in terms of shape, texture or colour. All three are subtly highlighted in the living area which draws most of its grand ambience from its double-volume ceiling. Adding to this effect is the spectacular ring chandelier hanging above which is a functional piece of art in itself. Textured paint on one wall and the fabrics of the grey L-shaped sofa, two brown one-seaters and grey rug add some light tactile complexity even as they comply with the established palette. Meanwhile, the wood grain of the television cabinet and the shine of the rose-gold round coffee table provide character without overwhelming the other furnishings.
Similarly, the dining area mostly keeps things simple and neat with a dining set comprised of a light brown long wooden dining table and black metal-framed dining chairs with white and brown upholstery. A series of ring pendant lights help provide illumination at night and maintain a visual connection to the living area nearby. Where this space differs from its neighbour is the bold statement it makes with the large artwork of koi adorning the nearby wall above the black piano. Off to the side, a rose gold floor-to-ceiling open shelf allows for smaller decorative items to be displayed. In order to avoid detracting from the beauty of these pieces, the kitchen adheres strictly to a pure white colour scheme that is only broken up by a set of wooden bar stools.
On the other side of the partition wall, the study balances out its similarly overall white palette with hardwood flooring and wooden chairs. Equipped with ample storage space courtesy of the cabinets and shelf slots built into its long L-shaped corner desk, it is the perfect place to work and study or even for the children to play. If a place to quietly enjoy some casual reading is needed, the alcove in the partition wall is ready to serve with its bench seat and overhead lighting.
Upstairs on the mezzanine floor overlooking the living area is where a more private lounge area can be found. Primarily monochrome, this section of the residence has its own interpretation of the overall aesthetic of quiet sophistication that gives it its own personality. Even the artwork hanging on the nearby wall adheres to the established colour scheme so that it does not stand out too much. In contrast, the master bedroom has a much more majestic feel to it thanks to its unique ceiling lights and the rose gold frames on the wall behind the bed. Last but not least, a small workstation tucked away in the corner allows for some work to be done just before or after a good night’s sleep.
