Strategically located in Shah Alam, Selangor, the township of Cahaya Alam can be described as idyllic due to its spacious homes, beautifully landscaped gardens and a wide range of amenities. One homeowner eager to further enhance this feeling of serenity in their residence enlisted Movent’s help in making that a reality and Zhi Wei delivered on all counts.

The core concept behind the home’s transformation is the modern industry inspired style Movent calls Hudson which marries the firm’s signature ultra sleek look with neutral colours and wood accents. Inspired by the Manhattan borough in New York City, New York, US, this concept is readily apparent to anyone who so much as steps into the abode. The walls of the main living area are alternatively painted an edgy black and covered in light brown stone-patterned wallpaper. Also keeping with the overall concept is the wood panel flooring which has been applied to the entirety of the residence in order to subtly bring everything together.

Accentuating this unlikely combination are similarly pitch black window blinds framing the floor-to-ceiling glass windows which allow natural light inside to illuminate the interior. When that is insufficient, soft lights installed in strategic points on the ceiling fulfil that responsibility. The result is the further enhancement of the warm ambience necessary to turn a house into a home.

This colour combination was also applied to the furniture with a few unusual touches thrown in to give the space some personality. In the living area, an orange sofa and two beige one-seaters provide a comfortable place to relax and even socialise when guests are over. These have been matched with an ebony television cabinet and a set of quirky coffee tables with black metal frames and wooden tops that rest on an equally eccentric abstract painting-like rug.

Similarly, the dining area sports a dining table with a wooden top and dark grey upholstered wooden chairs while two abstract paintings adorn the nearby wall and a geometric chandelier hangs overhead. A slight departure from this colour scheme is the kitchen which is predominantly black with swaths of white for contrast but still features the overall concept’s wood elements in its flooring and countertops.

The minimalistic influences and luxurious materiality of Movent’s Hudson style are also on full display in the bedrooms which each have their own personality. For the master bedroom, edgy black has been matched with brick-patterned wallpaper where the walls are concerned while the furnishings are a mixture of light wood, ebony and grey. A rendering of a kris hangs over the bed and gives the space an artistic touch that serves to represents the owner’s interests. Meanwhile, the other bedroom sports a unique pairing of cement-patterned wallpaper and white paint walls that draw attention to the black pendant lights and the bed’s unconventionally patterned sheets.
