On Tuesday, October 15, Designer of The Year Awards (DOTY) celebrates their 10th year anniversary at EQ Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Every year, DOTY honours and recognises both local and international interior designers for the outstanding work they have done in the industry.
Interior designers across Malaysia submit their designs every year to get the chance to be awarded Best Interior Designer of the Year, in 3 different categories – residential, commercial and show-house. Besides that, there are other awards such as – the Rising Star Award and Best Product Design.
Not only that, DOTY has a few international accolade under their belt. They celebrate the accomplishments of renowned international designers by awarding them the Asia’s Most Influential Designer Award (AMIDA) and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
During the night of the awards, everyone in attendance were dressed to the nines and kept true to this year’s theme “Black & Bling” – looking sleek in black and dazzled in bling. Our designers were buzzing with excitement and nervousness, eager to know the decisions made by our respectable judges.
The award show was graced with Mr Ken Phua serenading the guest and the delicious food that was served.
The highlight of the night were the Asia’s Most Influential Designer Award recipients – renowned architect, Duangrit Bunnag, celebrity interior designer, Sussanne Khan and April Hudson, design director of Katharine Pooley Ltd, who came in place of Katharine Pooley. Who took out time from their busy schedules to graciously fly across the world to join us on such a memorable night and making it even more memorable.
Last but definitely not the least, the talk of the night – Philippe Starck was awarded the DOTY Lifetime Achievement Award. Even though, Starck could not attend due to prior commitments, he was kind enough to send an acceptance speech video – which delighted everyone in attendance.
