Through the skilful use of construction materials and the calculated rearrangement of certain spaces, this residence was transformed into a celebration of the beauty of raw elements.
Situated in the vibrant township of Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Green Suria is a collection of apartment blocks that delivers on its promise of being a peaceful and quiet place to live. A resident of this tranquil development brought in Tam Tong Lim to give their abode a bold look that will without a doubt set it apart from the crowd. Inspired by the literal building blocks of every construction which include brick and wood, the home is a modern take on these raw elements and a liveable novelty that is simultaneously daring and lavish.
Upon setting foot inside, the first thing that is sure to grab one’s attention is the brick texture wallpaper that covers the long stretch of wall running from the dining area to the living area that is only interrupted by a doorway and a section of black-framed glass. This rugged yet clean aesthetic not only adds a great deal of character to the residence from the get-go but also cleverly disguises a door near the smooth dark wood dining set that leads directly to the kitchen. Vintage pendant lights contribute to this area’s rustic appeal while the nearby cupboards provide some interesting contrast with their rough concrete look.
Creating a continuous visual trend is the set of cabinets across from the dining table which also sport doors that look like slabs of rough concrete and the actual slabs of rough concrete covering the opposite wall from this point up to the living area. Providing both personality and storage space are the matte black wall-mounted shelves which are illuminated by the matching track lighting that runs through the rest of the abode. The result is a flexible, swivelling gallery-like radiance that also applies to the living area which has been furnished with a grey L-shaped sofa, a very unique coffee table made out of hexagonal wood pieces and a dark wood television cabinet.
Past the home’s main social spaces, the walls of the inner rooms have been painted a bright blue in order to facilitate a more peaceful state of mind for its occupants. Formerly the dining room, the first room on the left in the hallway was turned into a multifunctional room with black-frame glass sliding doors that match the ‘window’ that looks into the dining area. Equipped with wall-mounted shelves, upholstered chairs, a wooden desk and a bookcase made of wood and black steel frames, it was designed with versatility of use in mind.
Interestingly, this room is connected to the kitchen which sports a combination of white and dark grey cabinets as well as artistic wall tiles that enhance its visual profile. For the purpose of maximising space usage, it was extended further into a former yard area which has a different look that is defined by sleek black wall tiles and unfinished yet elegant-looking cabinets.
Further inside is naturally the master bedroom which has wood flooring and wooden furniture so that a calm atmosphere conducive for a good night’s sleep can be achieved. Meanwhile, the choice to furnish it with a grey diamond-tufted upholstered bed and paint the wall behind the bed with grey textured paint gives it that necessary personal touch. Next to the small nook where a work desk has been installed, a section of wall was torn down so that the adjacent room could be turned into a dreamy walk-in wardrobe with a primarily stone grey colour scheme.
