Pieces of The Puzzle

L- and T-shaped volumes are pieces of an architectural puzzle that come together to create a luxurious holiday retreat

Located in one of Brazil’s most luxurious golf community’s, Quinta da Baroneza, NVD House is surrounding by native forest and the Atibaia River. A relaxing and leisurely retreat for a family of five, this three-storey home was designed by Studio Arthur Casa as a weekend residence for the family to spend quality time together. Characterised by its dynamic volumes, great spans and cantilevered architecture, NVD House projects from the verdant landscape in order to make the most of the natural beauty that surrounds it.

An architectural puzzle of L- and T-shaped volumes, each glad in glass, stone and wood-like aluminum, it is in these different volumes that the whole house’s program is distributed. Each volume takes full advantage of the maximum integration between the ambiences and of the amplitude of each space. The lower volume, lined with rustic granite and wall texture, accommodates the service, sauna and the spa areas. Above it, the main living volume appears, corresponding to the ground and access levels of the home. L-shaped and with a raw textured façade, this main level concentrates the social and guest spaces, with guest suites, kitchen, swimming pool, and 20-metre-long living room with fireplace, terrace and barbecue pit. Appearing as though it detaches from the rest of the home, the cantilevered posture of this centre volume was a structural challenge solved by prestressed beams. Topped by a green roof that provides the home with its very own golf course, the green roof efficiently integrates home and landscape, also working as a sustainable solution for thermal balance.

Finally, the upper volume, wrapped in a wood-like aluminum aspect, accommodates the master suite, the office space and three suites for the children. Each with its own balcony, these intimate spaces offer a serene view and access to the green roof.

The interiors of NVD House were curated by Noura Van Dijk to achieve a warm yet contemporary feel with a focus on neutral tones and natural textures. This simple design concept, paired with the spacious, cantilevered architecture allows the surrounding vibrant green landscape to infuse the interiors and create a luxurious living environment.
