Mediterranean design may come across as a décor taboo or overdone to some, but ARRCC Interior Design Company outdid itself with Roca Llisa and changed what we know to be “Mediterranean” entirely! Located off the coast of Spain, Ibiza is known for being a raging good time, somewhat akin to what Mexico has accomplished with Spring Break Cancun. Nonetheless, this isn’t about teenage parties; this villa is everything you would dream of. It congregates local favourites under the same roof — ceramic vessels, vintage rugs, antique-looking furniture — leavened with spare, modern pieces as well as contemporary art. Moreover, the play of shadows throughout the day makes us so thankful for the infallible sun that shines so brightly on this all-inclusive estate.
There’s no doubt that this island retreat is an enclave of luxury on its own as the owner had always wanted a family retreat, sanctuary, meditative space as well as a fully functioning entertainment venue for family and large gathering of friends. In layman terms, a party abode within a private oasis. With a villa like Roca Llisa, there’s always something to show off — the five spatial bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the sunbed area, the water feature and sunken outdoor lounge are just a few among the many.
Thoughtfully designed, Roca Llisa was not created based on the growing needs of a recluse family. In fact, the very core of the villa itself was simplicity and the heart of a family hub. Having put together many presumed desires of the current architectural era, the Roca Llisa still stands as an epitome of timeless yet comprehensive take on Mediterranean villas. Evidently more challenging than a common urban property, ARRCC jumped at the opportunity to lean in with its expert eye for details. Speaking of that, all three levels of the villa are splashed with the use of natural organic materials such as timber and stone. With such a focused design approach, the property’s structure is not only made solid, but these tactile materials add a sense of homeliness and warmth to the overall contemporary piece of architecture.
At the same time, the large sliding glass doors allow a bit of nature into the home as the lush outdoors become part of the interior through the undraped windows. We can just imagine leaving them wide open throughout the day and inviting a sweet smell of salt waters into the indoor spaces. The casual yet elegant nature of the décor also expresses a modern, relaxed and a slight bohemian character without being too cluttered or excessively layered.
Unmistakably a home for a family who worships the sun, surely Roca Llisa couldn’t be without its chaise lounges in varied sunbed areas. There’s hardly a cloudy day in Ibiza all year round, so why give up the opportunity to lie beside the infinity pool? In fact, the vantage overlooking the crystal clear Mediterranean seas is given due justice, thanks to the very ingenious use of durable glass as banisters that would not stop house guests from losing themselves in this beautiful moment in time. On top of that, there’s a sunken outdoor lounge in sight that promises guests the perfect spot for watching the sun as well as an exciting evening ahead.
When it comes to panoramic views, the landscape is as serene as it is with ARRCC’s vision for Roca Llisa. Acutely aware of how light moves through a space, ARRCC must have had some secret ‘magic formula’ that constructed each room as individual sets, with different moods continuously established by the passage of the sun — patterns emerge at dawn, the geometry of the architecture is subtly highlighted in the hours of early noon and a dramatic Moorish ambience overcomes the scene during sunset.
