Empathising with the owners of this seaside apartment in Penang, the designer has developed a design that celebrates the luxury of this seafront apartment with an elegant, resort-styled design, enhancing the naturally leisurely vibe of the property with a touch of sophistication.
Aptly named “The Light Collection”, this particular design adopts the ambient effect of lighting fixtures and by extension, shades and shadows, in creating different moods for specific areas within. In addition to that, a variety of lighting techniques are applied lavishly across the residence to bring attention to meticulously-produced wall features and decorative pieces that truly reflect the high-end stature of this apartment.
Serving as a transitioning point between the outer world and its interior spaces, the foyer is essentially fitted with an artistic ceiling lamp as a sneak preview for the brilliantly thought-out design beyond its main door. Upon entering the apartment, one is immediately captivated by the ritzy yet relaxing ambience owing to the luxurious treatment that the designer has fashioned the common areas with. Balanced with an open space layout, inhabitants are constantly reminded of the geographical jewel upon which the apartment was built on through visual presence of the sea in all its glory no matter where they are seated at.
Being the heart of this living space, the living room design blatantly radiates a sense of leisure that is manifested by its wall-to-ceiling feature. Connecting both surfaces seamlessly, the designer has decided to apply actual timber strips which produce soothing shadowy shades when the lights are switched on while instantly zoning the space out with its tunnelling effect. It is further furnished with a luxurious L-shape sofa, a plush floor rug, an earthy colour palette, as well as a wall décor made from the combination of copper and mirror, giving the space a truly idyllic vibe.
At the dining area, lighting fixtures plays an even more important role in aspects of decoration, illumination and maintaining visual focal points within an area that is situated further away from the source of natural lighting. Keeping to the theme of modern luxury, the designer has chosen to arrange a series of low-hanging pendant lamps over the dining table, replicating the contemporary appeal of linear designs to counterbalance the classical patterns of its ceiling. On top of that, the dining area is also afforded another visual highlight to serve as a conversation piece with an opulently-decorated feature wall along the hallway, while the mirrored wall on the other end of the dining area further accentuates the perceived spaciousness of its interior.
Instead of leaving the wall at the hallway unattended, the designer saw the opportunity of repurposing the bland wall into an important anchor of the overall design by putting a collection of decorative and furniture pieces together skilfully to function as a display area that welcomes guests as they walk across the hallway. The kitchen was also not overlooked as it is fitted with a gorgeous white marble backsplash, dark wooden finishes and downlit lighting fixtures at the bottom of its overhead cabinets to provide this space with similar ambient effect as the rest of this apartment.
When it comes to the bedrooms, the designer has made a bold decision to explore creative ways of creating peaceful, resting environments while maintaining a level of visual sophistication that rivals hotel suites. At the master bedroom, the emphasis was placed on nature-inspired décor, ranging from the selection of timber flooring, soft bedhead upholsteries, warm wooden furniture, serene earth tones and a wall feature inspired by the patterns of a beehive. The second bedroom is given a design that explores the contrasting effects of modern and classical European details as the third bedroom is decorated with an urban flair that appeals to the younger generations. In true ST Concepts style, every inch of this apartment is meticulously measured and designed to bring the best of modern living to the owners.
