Re-evaluating the purpose of design, the designer has created a living space that brought back the joys of a home while addressing fundamental concerns of a modern household. In order to truly transform this intermediate terrace house, structural alterations have been made with the incorporation of an Othello-inspired privacy walls at the front and the back of the house, providing the luxury of scenic views that would otherwise be impossible to obtain. The feature has allowed the designer to provide a pond indoor while ensuring that the owners and guests to feel like they have been transported to a completely different world upon entering the house.
Maximising the effects of a pond, the interior design has been aligned to the feature. As such, a full glass sliding door is placed between the pond and the living area while the spaces are furnished with a cement bench and an indoor seating area for full enjoyment of the view. Internally, the rest of the common area is restructured with an open concept that is connected through a free-flow layout to promote spaciousness instead of a collection of individual spaces. Towards the end of the house, the dining area is designed with versatility in mind as the kitchen space features a sleek yet functional touch. Meanwhile, the wall at the end of the house is incorporated with window boxes that offer the owners the option of cultivating their own herbs as it further supplies the kitchen with natural light.
Much like the other areas of the house, the staircase is also designed with openness in mind with its grill-less feature. Upstairs, the bedrooms are given a simple but effective décor with a focus of creating a calming ambience. Apart from an attached walk-in wardrobe and a master bath, the master bedroom is further enhanced with a view of the pond. That’s not all. The vanity was also moved into the walk-in wardrobe with a standalone wash basin as the back of it is fashioned into a dressing table for the convenience of the owners. However, the designer ensured that her design emphasised more on the common areas to remind the family of the joy of living and interacting as a family instead of isolating themselves in their bedrooms.
