An unusually regal dining experience is made possible within an environment that is elegant, airy, and warm
Blanc, a 42-seat restaurant, is nestled in the historic yet sophisticated Macalister Mansion, a restored colonial boutique hotel, in the heart of Georgetown, Penang. Drawing ideas from the physical colonial structure itself, the designers brought out an old English vibe with modernised elements. The design project is named “Blue-Chip Indulgence in Idiosyncrasy”. In a simplified manner, patrons can enjoy a dining experience that is unusually regal within an environment that is elegant, matured, warm, welcoming, and comfortable.
Modernised chandeliers and fireplace added the touch for a modern classic design. Aligning to the new branding direction of the restaurant, the team used various colours, materials, and fixtures through bespoke detailing to create a truly unique dining environment that can flexibly cater to the excellent service for each customer. The usage of metallic items brought out the elegance and maturity of the design, while the colour scheme used evoked a sense of comfort and welcoming. Many curved elements were incorporated to approach the design in a more fluid manner, which added to the elegance of design as well.
Pillar-like designs at doorways and the sides of windows leave a timeless classical impression. Dynamic shapes of cut porcelain tiles for the flooring add drama to the dining experience. Chandelier and pendant lighting serves the dual purpose of function and form by providing illumination while enhancing the beauty of the ambience. The palest pastels of light open up the surroundings and suggest airiness, rest, and liquidity. Resembling sheer curtains at a window, they send a message of relaxation. The blue-violet on the walls symbolise authority and regal inspiration, aptly reflecting the rich history of the colonial structure.
