Casa Neblina

Translated to ‘foggy house’, Casa Neblina is a white, cantilevered, contemporary structure that has been designed to take in every millimeter of sunlight and greenery that surrounds it

In the countryside of São Paulo, Brazil, Casa Neblina stands atop a hill like a set of shoe boxes on stilts. Crafted by a composition of volumes, Casa Neblina was architecturally placed based on sun orientation and will the aim to capture the gorgeous views of the surrounding Itatiba Valley. As well as the verdant views and capturing of natural light, the necessity of the home’s privacy was considered by the distance from the street and the desire to integrate the house with the abundant gardens. Floating among the tree canopies, Casa Neblina certainly makes you feel as though your nestled in a futuristic tropical treehouse.

Made up of various white, cube-like structures, the conception of Casa Neblina’s volumes was focused on a formal approach towards varying dimensions and heights of the home’s structural measurements. Designed by local Brazilian studio, FGMF Arquitetos, the architectural aesthetic of Casa Neblina showcases the programmatic sectorization of the building, and painted all white, provides a strong contrast to its evergreen surroundings. In some places, these volumes arise from the ground, some floating above a large front garden, and others hiding among the flourishing green canopy.

Casa Neblina is a two-storey concrete residence with the bottom level housing an open-plan living and dining room that is engulfed in floor-to-ceiling windows. Seamlessly connected to an outdoor patio and swimming pool, Casa Neblina’s living space provides the residences with an unspoiled connection to nature. On the upper floor, each volume hosts a bedroom. The four bedrooms each have ensuites and large windows at the rear that continue the home’s relationship with the outdoors, as well as capturing the sunlight.

The service areas of the home were partially hidden in a certain quota with a green roof, being disguised in the landscape and working as a kind of retaining wall. This containment created a plateau hidden from the public view.

In just 400 square metres, FGMF Arquitetos have designed a contemporary and luxurious living environment that appears to emerge from the sloped site, and therefore capturing all the beauty and sunlight that mother nature has to offer.
